Sara Abazari
Sara Abazari is a composer and music pedagogue. Her work focuses
on the musical analysis of different historical periods and the
examination of the relationship between music and society. Her
compositions have been performed at Musik-Triennale-Köln, Musikfest
in Siegen, Tehran-Berlin Travellers and traiect ii, a.o, and by ensembles
such as unitedberlin, Musikfabrik and Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester
Berlin. She studied piano with Farimah Ghawamsadri and composition
with Alireza Mashayekhi and continued her studies in composition with
Kryzstof Meyer, music theory with Johannes Schild and Martin
Herchenröder and piano with Klaus Oldenmeyer at the Hochschule für
Musik und Tanz Köln. She completed her doctorate in music theory at
the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with a thesis on
“Music and Power in Iran” with Dieter Torkewitz. She was an assistant
professor of composition and a member of the music faculty at the
University of Tehran and co-founded the Ensemble and Centre for
Contemporary Music there in 2017.
