Maryam Mehraban
Maryam Mehraban was born on July 1, 1989, in Tehran. She is an Iranian pianist specializing in contemporary music. Mehraban began playing music at the age of four and had her first concert experiences at the age of 12. She studied piano at the Music High School in Tehran, where she also learned the Persian instrument Setar under Mehrbanoo Towfigh, receiving training in both classical European and classical Persian music.
Continuing her studies, she pursued a degree in piano at the University of Applied Sciences, Culture and Art in Tehran from 2007, studying under Dilbar Hakimova and Raphael Minaskanian. By the age of 18, she had already established herself as a concert pianist and piano teacher, also engaging in studies of contemporary music in collaboration with contemporary composers.
In 2015, Mehraban began her studies in the “Artistic Pedagogical Education” program at the University of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover, Germany, receiving piano instruction from Igor Tchetuev, Teppo Koivisto, and Christopher Oakden.
As an artist, Mehraban initially focused on interpreting works by Persian composers such as Alireza Mashayekhi, Hooshyar Khayam, Karen Keyhani, Mohammad Reza Tafazzoli, and Kiawasch SahebNassagh, including premieres and CD recordings. Since immigrating to Germany, she has increasingly devoted herself to performing contemporary music from Europe and America. In 2017, she premiered the work “Intervalle” by Gottfried Michael Koenig together with Raquel Marcos de la Rua.
Mehraban currently resides in Hamburg and is working on her doctoral thesis. In addition to her musical activities, she writes texts and screenplays, and organizes workshops on various musical topics in Iran every year.
