Biography
Leo Brouwer (born 1939, Cuba) started playing guitar at the age of 13 and did his first performance at 17. Under the influence of Bartok and Stravinsky, he composed Prelude in 1956 and Fugue in 1959. Brouwer›s first compositions have originally Cuban roots and are influenced by the African-Cuban folk and their rhythmic style.
Brouwer also wrote Etude Simples 20-1 to fulfill the needs of modern guitar playing. Brouwer composed music for Choir, Chamber, Modern Ballet, Brass instruments and Orchestra. He is the manager of Music department of the Cinema Community, Music Consultant of the National Radio And Television of Havana Company and also teaches composing at the Music Conservatory.
