Elnaz Behkam
Elnaz Behkam was born in Tehran and has lived in Austria since 2008. The young pianist received her first piano lessons from Kamal Taravati in Tehran at the age of six. This was followed by piano lessons with Farimah Ghavamsadri. Her active concert activity at home and abroad includes a broad solo repertoire as well as four-hand piano pieces and works for two pianos and chamber music.
In addition to classical music, it also focuses on contemporary music and is dedicated to rarely performed international composers. In 2014, the artist released a CD recording with works by the well-known Persian composer Alireza Mashayekhi, “Contemporary Music in Iran” (Mahoor Verlag). The artist has had many appearances in various concert halls in her home country and received awards in the “Piano Competition for New Music” Iran (2003 and 2006).
The pianist also showed great talent in other artistic areas, including composition, where she had Alireza Mashayekhi as a teacher, and painting, where she won the Shankar’s International Competition for Painting (SIC), India. She continued her artistic career in Vienna to study piano and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts.
Elnaz Behkam was taught and supervised by well-known pianists and pedagogues, including Prof. Alexander Rößler, Prof. Albert Sassmann, Prof. Mathilde Hoursiangou, Prof. Noel Flores and in master classes by Niklas Sivelov, Ugo and Franca Cividino, and Peter Barcaba. She has given many concerts as a soloist and in an ensemble. Her need to pass on her passion for and knowledge of music to others led her to study instrumental pedagogy.
In recent years she has performed many premieres and many different works by well-known composers such as Pierre Boulez, Friedrich Cerha, Tristan Murail, Beat Furrer, Georg Friedrich Haas, Rebecca Saunders, Johannes Maria Staud, Francesco Filidei and many others.
Elnaz Behkam contributes in many areas with great enthusiasm and creativity as a diverse concert pianist and excellent piano teacher.
