Amin Honarmand

Amin Honarmand is a multi-award winning composer and associate professor at the University of Tehran, where he teaches composition, orchestration, and analysis. He earned a master’s (2008) and doctorate (2012) in composition from the University of Toronto on full scholarship.
He has written music for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, orchestra, choir, electroacoustic media, as well as acclaimed movies such as Today (2014, screened at TIFF), and Castle of Dreams (2019, winner of the best original score prize at Fajr International Film Festival, and screened at VIFF.
His music has been performed in the U.S., Canada, Russia, and Iran, and has been released by Mahoor Institute and Ablaze Records (available on Naxos Music Library). Honarmand is an avid scholar with interest in Alfred Schnittke’s music. His recent article entitled Aggregates and Quasi-Aggregates: A Study of Dodecaphony in Schnittke’s Music is published in Music Theory Spectrum (2019). In 2020, Honarmand received the young scholar award from the University of Tehran.
